Inspired

The comic is coming along and I should be done in decent time. I admit, it got a little out of control. We needed 8 pages and I have 20. Ah well.

Meanwhile I just got back from Horror Hound in Cincinnati. I’m always inspired by guys like Joel Robinson, Billy Tackett and Todd… Todd… oh I don’t recall his last name. But he’s a very very good illustrator. Joel is big into digital painting while I think Billy does all of his work traditionally. They’re all nice people too. It’s good to be inspired by people worth being inspired by.

This is my second painting of the year, and unfortunately, it may be my last. I’m in the trenches working on my comic book for my class on sequential narrative. I’m having fun with it, sure, but it’s detracting from painting.

Illustration Set-Up

Here’s my set up for illustrating now.

This sure as hell beats drawing on the couch. Plus I can put reference material on my computer monitor and listen to iTunes.

The Wheels That Go ‘Round

I’ve been bicycle commuting to work since 2004. My girlfriend had left me, and I decided to finally ride my bike to work. The apartment we once shared was across from a wide bike path that led to the main trail through town. It was about 7 miles each way.

So I bought a $70 bike from Target and away I went.

Now, six years later, I close out the 2010 cycling season with about 900 miles logged on a road bike. In a way, I’m glad we moved in together if only because it got me riding a bike again. I still miss that apartment though.

I Wish I Could Get Paid To Be Creative

I thought this as I walked into the office this morning. It should be noted that the word “designer” appears in my job title.

Here’s that comic page. It’s now mostly inked but I’m happy with the pencils even so.

I would love to do this full time. I think I’d really dig inking.
